What We Treat | Detox 5
Detox 5 specialises in the treament of opiate addiction.
Opiates are narcotic drugs which are derived from the opium poppy. The most common ones are morphine, diamorphine (heroin) and codeine. The most common synthetic opiate is methadone.
Repeated use leads to tolerance (needing to increase the dose and/or take more frequently) and dependence (being unable to stop taking the drug). Physical complications include sedation, nausea and vomiting, constipation and lethargy.
People use and misuse opiates to treat their physical and emotional pain. If dependence has developed, they need help to overome this.
