Important Notice - 12th Feb 2010: The Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed yesterday that the death of an injecting heroin user (IDU) in Blackpool was the result of anthrax. This is the second case of anthrax seen in an injecting drug user in England this month.
Since December 2009, there have been twenty one anthrax cases, including nine deaths, among both heroin injectors and smokers in Scotland. Similarities to the cases in Scotland and another death in Germany suggest that the heroin, or a contaminated cutting agent mixed with the heroin, is the likely source of anthrax infection among English IDUs.
For more information, including the symptoms of anthrax and how to minimise risk please see the attached HPA information leaflet.
Why Choose Detox 5?
Detox 5 is a safe, innovative and effective treatment programme for patients with addictions to opiates. Our programme can help you detox from heroin, methadone, morphine, codeine and more.
A proven approach
We offer a 5-day detoxification programme that can help you withdraw from drugs with minimal discomfort, allowing you to detox from heroin and other opiates quickly and safely. We will administer light sedation, allowing you to sleep through the first few days of your detox process and pain relief to alleviate any unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
Following the detox phase, we incorporate a medication known as naltrexone which blocks the effects of opiates in the brain preventing them from giving you a high. The use of naltrexone has been clinically shown to help patients maintain abstinence and prevent relapse.
Our approach is not a cure for addiction, but the first step towards a drug-free lifestyle.
A record of success
Detox 5 has a success rate that speaks for itself. Since we were established in 1995, we have treated more than 6,500 patients. We have helped patients with long term histories of drug abuse as well as those who have only recently started using drugs; our success rates are good in both areas. Detox 5 is the leading provider of heroin detox services in Britain.
We pride ourselves on our nursing care and in providing our patients with the opportunity to get their lives back. Over the years, the Detox 5 treatment service has evolved as our knowledge and understanding of our patients' needs have grown. We actively listen to our patients and maintain our knowledge of new clinical practises adapting our treatment options accordingly. You will have complete privacy and receive 24-hour expert clinical nursing care; you and your loved ones can rest assured that you are in safe hands.
