Subutex Addiction

Like methadone, buprenorphine (Subutex, Suboxone) is primarily used to treat heroin addiction. It is usually used for shorter periods than methadone. It tends to be given in reducing doses rather than long-term maintenance.

Buprenorphine can be sold on to the street and has become a drug of abuse in recent years. Misuse of it leads to physical and psychological addiction. This can be very dangerous if taken without medical supervision. Its effects are similar to those of heroin and methadone withdrawal symptoms can be very unpleasant.
