Outcomes

We monitor our former patients for 12 months following their recovery to gather detailed research of the outcomes of service. The effectiveness of our heroin detox program is vital to us at Detox 5, gathering research helps us to identify areas which need to be improved upon. Outcome letters are sent to them, their supervisor, GP and drug worker at three, six and twelve months and the responses are collated.

Over the years we have successfully gathered information on approximately 50% of our service users at twelve months post discharge. On average, 59% of our service users have remained opiate-free.

Since the addition of naltrexone implants to Detox 5 in 2007 we have seen an increase in:

• the number of people we are able to follow up
• the numbers of people who are opiate-free at 3, 6 and 12 months
• service user satisfaction, particularly in relation to cravings post-discharge
