Non-Prescription Medication Addiction
NPMs - sometimes referred to as 'Over the Counter Meds'. Following a course of self-medication, there is a possibility that addiction to prescription drugs occurs. The signs of NPM addiction may vary, but include:
- Taking medication with no associated symptoms
- Increasing medication un-necessarily to relieve symptoms
- Taking medication in excess of the recommended dose
Subject to an assessment with our medical team and an in-depth consultation with our consultant psychiatrist, we are happy to admit you for treatment for this type of addiction; the course of treatment is very similar in its schedule to that experienced by opiate addicts.
We will begin the treatment by placing you in supervised care and under sedation. During this time - a period of three days and nights - your body will adjust and relieve itself of the medications upon which you have become dependent. We will do our very best to minimise any discomfort you feel during this time.
Discharge on day 5 follows a de-briefing, where we will give you help and support for your next stage of recovery - going home. Closer contact, via telephone support, will be tailored to your needs for the first 12 weeks after the initial treatment. Ongoing aftercare is then provided through a 24/7 helpline for advice on detox symptoms and any other concerns you may have.
Please don't hesitate to call us for more details.
